What’s Changed Since Our Last Update
Our previous post in this series covered approvals up to and including Belgium, which received the green light in June 2026. Since then, the global list of approved markets has grown considerably. Here is a summary of what is new:
- Slovenia โ approved in early September 2026, becoming the sixth EU country to recognise FSD Supervised.
- Czechia โ approved on 21 Sep 2026, making it the seventh EU country and the 15th market globally.
- Important correction: A previous version of this post incorrectly stated that Germany had approved FSD Supervised. Germany has NOT approved FSD Supervised. Germany is conducting evaluation through its Kraftfahrt-Bundesamt (KBA) and running demo/ride-along events only. Approval there remains pending.
Where Is FSD Supervised Officially Approved? (as at 26 Sep 2026)
The definitive source for which countries have received regulatory approval for FSD Supervised is Tesla’s own FSD page. Only markets listed there as “currently available in” should be treated as approved. Demo rides, ride-alongs, and test programmes do not constitute approval for customer use.
As of today, FSD Supervised is confirmed as approved in the following markets, spanning 15 countries and territories:
Americas
- ๐บ๐ธ United States
- ๐จ๐ฆ Canada
- ๐ฒ๐ฝ Mexico
- ๐ต๐ท Puerto Rico
Asia-Pacific
- ๐จ๐ณ China
- ๐ฐ๐ท South Korea
- ๐ฆ๐บ Australia
- ๐ณ๐ฟ New Zealand
Europe
- ๐ณ๐ฑ Netherlands (first European approval, 10 Apr 2026)
- ๐ฑ๐น Lithuania (May 2026)
- ๐ช๐ช Estonia (May 2026)
- ๐ฉ๐ฐ Denmark (9 Jun 2026)
- ๐ง๐ช Belgium (10 Jun 2026)
- ๐ธ๐ฎ Slovenia (7 Sep 2026)
- ๐จ๐ฟ Czechia (21 Sep 2026)
FSD Supervised’s approval in Czechia makes it the 15th market globally where the system is available, with the full list now standing at the USA, Canada, Mexico, Puerto Rico, South Korea, China, Australia, New Zealand, the Netherlands, Denmark, Belgium, Lithuania, Estonia, Slovenia, and Czechia.
Europe now accounts for seven of those markets, underscoring Tesla’s accelerating push to expand FSD across the continent.
It is worth stressing that FSD Supervised is only available if your vehicle is registered in a country where regulatory approval has been granted. You cannot use FSD Supervised by driving into an approved country if your vehicle is registered in a non-approved country.
Important: Demo Rides โ Approved
A number of countries have been running Tesla FSD demo rides and ride-along programmes. These are not the same as full regulatory approval for customer use. Countries in this position include:
- Germany โ The Kraftfahrt-Bundesamt (KBA) is evaluating the Dutch RDW file and is in contact with both RDW and Tesla, but
the KBA is still evaluating the RDW file and discussing the system exceeding posted speed limits. EU-wide recognition is expected to be discussed at the TCMV in October โ but Germany has not granted national approval.
- Spain โ
Spain has Tesla running FSD Supervised on public roads under the DGT’s ES-AV automated-vehicle testing programme, a fleet that grew from 19 cars to around 30 and has covered some 80,000 km since November 2025 with no reported incidents.
However,
Spain’s Industry and Tourism Minister has clarified that Spain will not unilaterally authorise FSD Supervised under the Dutch Article 39 exemption. His team is working in coordination with other countries, the European Commission, and the UN. Spain will wait for the EU-wide process rather than take a national shortcut โ and the DGT ES-AV pilot test fleet is unaffected; there is still no national customer go-ahead.
- Switzerland โ
Tesla kicked off FSD Supervised ride-along events in Switzerland on 11 Aug 2026, running sessions in Cham, Bern, Buchs-Aarau, Zรผrich, Bussigny, Basel, and Genรจve.
These are structured ride-alongs only and do not represent customer approval.
- France โ
French Transport Minister Philippe Tabarot issued a statement rejecting Tesla’s push for national FSD Supervised approval, stating the safety trade-offs are “not yet sufficient.” He cited concerns around the system permitting speeds above posted limits and insufficient driver-attention monitoring during complex urban manoeuvres.
What Is the Route to EU-Wide Approval?
The first European Tesla approval was granted by the Dutch RDW on 10 Apr 2026. Since FSD Supervised is more advanced than the regulation allowed for, the RDW used an EU exception to build a type approval โ which any EU state may accept, but is not required to.
The Technical Committee on Motor Vehicles (TCMV) is now expected to vote on EU-wide approval of FSD Supervised on 6 Oct 2026. If it passes with a qualified majority, the European Commission would issue an implementing act extending the Dutch RDW type approval across all 27 member states.
An EU-wide approval is only possible once both thresholds are met: at least 15 of 27 member states AND 65% of the EU population.
With seven states approved so far, the bloc is still well short of both thresholds acting alone โ making the October TCMV vote the critical moment to watch.
The TCMV June 30 meeting was discussion-only; EU-wide recognition may slip into 2027.
Germany, France, Italy, Spain, and the Czech Republic had previously signalled they would rather wait for a coordinated EU decision than grant a national clearance that Brussels could later overturn
โ although Czechia ultimately moved ahead unilaterally in September 2026.
Where Does the UK Stand?
The UK remains without FSD Supervised approval for customer use, and โ crucially โ the UK cannot benefit from the EU approval pathway.
The UK is not in the EU, so there is no automatic mutual recognition. The Vehicle Certification Agency (VCA) is expected to review the RDW approval and test data under current rules. FSD Supervised is currently listed as “Under Review” for Great Britain.
Tesla’s current FSD Supervised is classified as a Level 2 Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS). The driver remains fully responsible at all times. It is therefore regulated under the existing GB type approval process administered by the Vehicle Certification Agency, using UN Regulation 171 (R171) for Driver Control Assistance Systems โ the same regulatory route used by the Dutch RDW.
Australia โ a right-hand-drive market like the UK โ has started rolling out advanced FSD Supervised updates to HW4 vehicles in 2026. The real-world right-hand-drive data and software refinements from Australia will directly strengthen Tesla’s UK VCA submission.
There is also a hardware dimension for UK owners to be aware of.
The current approval is limited to HW4 cars. HW3 cars, which are common in older UK Teslas, are not yet covered by European approvals. Tesla is expected to release an HW3 “lite” or optimised branch of FSD that is almost as capable as the HW4 version, expected to roll out first in the US before being adapted for Europe and the UK.
British Tesla drivers are getting increasingly frustrated at the lack of progress, particularly those who paid for the feature several years ago.
Tesla Owners UK has written to the Secretary of State to press for clarity on the government’s plans.
When Might the UK Get FSD Supervised?
The expected timeline for UK approval remains late 2026 to early 2027 โ broadly 4 to 10 months after the April 2026 RDW approval in the Netherlands.
Series 02 of R171 โ a later version of the regulation โ is designed to allow supervised FSD systems on urban roads and hands-free use on motorways. When this comes into effect in January 2027, Tesla will be able to seek an ordinary UN approval rather than relying on an exemption.
That pathway could ultimately simplify UK approval too, via the UK’s own parallel adoption of UN R171.
For UK owners, the October 6 TCMV vote in Brussels is worth watching closely โ not because it directly unlocks FSD in the UK, but because a positive EU-wide decision would likely accelerate the VCA’s confidence and timeline for a GB approval decision.
